generally huge change in format
So like over a month ago I stopped posting daily to this webcomic. I had planned to post something like 4 times a week.
When I stopped being a daily comic and decided to concentrate on better drawing, I thought I’d post often… I thought I was going to have comics with jokes in them fairly often…
But I don’t seem to be doing that. I just seem to be mostly practicing my drawing. So let’s just say I probably won’t do those things. I’ll be mostly just posting pics of things I drew for a while without the attempt at webcomicy jokey humor stuff — though I am surely not saying that it has gone away entirely. I am still working on longer running stories (Spacemen Go To Mars 2 is coming eventually) and more serious projects with other artists (count yourself lucky on that account too, things other people draw tend to look better than the things I draw).
So wanna see that last daily comic? Click this awesomely convenient link.
Don’t want to look at the comic, but maybe you wanna read the note I wrote on it at the time of posting? Well then, I’ve included it just below.
This is the last daily comic for a while but I will still be posting most days. When I started this webcomic about a year and a half ago, I made myself do daily so that I would be forced to be constantly creating and hopefully forced to improve. I think a scroll down to the bottom of the archive page shows that I’m making progress. I want to make more and now being a daily comic is getting in the way because I am having to pump things out and I’d really like the chance to spend more time on each one. So I’ll still be posting, I’m thinking minimum of two comics a week and shoot for four if I can swing it. And when I do longer series I may go back to daily to help get through the whole thing… like Spacemen Go To Mars 2 which I’ve already written and done breakdowns for, it’s about 35 parts. (oh and did you read the first one?)

totally going to use the greyscale markers on Spacemen Go To Mars 2, this is me playing around with one of the settings

to infinity
not really infinity but we now have scripts for In Flight to go to 62 parts, I think I’m planning for about 80 though
weehoo hi-ho
-
In Flight flies into August (at least)
- i started hosting In Flight on it’s own smackjeeves.com site right here inflight.smackjeeves.com
- i am going to san diego around for comic con
- i will try to also update prollynotfunny.com with the dropbox and tumblr apps on my iphone every day, but if you really wanna keep up, follow the rss feed for smack jeeves site In Flight: inflight.smackjeeves.com/rss
- I just published part 22 of In Flight (well part 21 of the story but 22 if you count the cover and i am since it numbers that way in the nice drop down on the smack jeeves site)
- almost everything about the smack jeeves platform is superior to tumblr when it comes to hosting a comic, it should also be a nicer experience for you dear reader
- i have parts 23-35 of In Flight queued up and ready to publish out on the smack jeeves site everyday
- i have parts 36-38 written
- i have a 14 part ending written and mostly drawn (though none have been smudged yet)
- that would make this a 52 part story if i stop there and that means this story wouldn’t end until well into August
- i might not stop there
- in fact i probably won’t stop there, i’ll probably write at least a few more while on the trip and draw them when i get back
- I am going to try not to work on In Flight much while on the trip
- I am going to try to spend any writing time working on the scripts and breakdowns for Spacemen Go To Mars 2
- i have pretty good breakdowns for parts 1-10 but i’m thinking i’m rushing it a bit already and i’m going most likely make that 15 parts
- i have rough scripts written to cover 15 more parts, but i really need to work into them and make sure to pace the story and add some humor, right now the scripts really focus just on moving the story elements forwards and that isn’t all that the SGTM series is about dammit
- i have also done roughs for quite a few other single shot or shorter comics outside of the recent long serials i’ve been doing, so you can expect at least a week or two of those after In Flight and before we start SGTM2, hopefully a new Squawkbot in there and a few about Dungeons and Dragons
- i’ve also got some treats related to In Flight: some horrible sketches as i first designed the spacecraft, the initial written idea for the series, the rough of the first comic— things like you’d find in the back of a trade paperback, i’m going to release those after i finish the story as well, maybe a few other things if they seem like they might be interesting enough
- i love the smack jeeves comic hosting platform, may move the main site there and pay for it, right now i’m just using their free hosting
- i will definitely keep making free mini sites to host different series, i have one for Spacemen Go To Mars and Squawkbot
- this is a lot of bullet points

In Flight progress report
- every script has been drawn (though some drawings still have not had their stars smudged)
- not counting the cover there are 39 comics that make up In Flight
- so there are 39 drawn comics for In Flight and the one i just released was number 8
- 19 of them still need their stars smudged
- it takes about 10 minutes to smudge stars per comic, sometimes 15, sometimes 5
- so there are literally hours of smudging to go
- i think that these 39 comics are all the comics that will make up this series (though i am thinking of redoing one of them already and i would still be open to including more if funny ideas come up, but i’m not really going to be adding to the story anymore, especially the ending)
- what story? i’m sure you are saying, some of these characters come back or get referred to a little bit, not much, but the ending is 11 tight sequential parts
- there are a lot of 2 part (and several 1 part) stories in the series
- the ending part is the longest but there is also one that is 8 parts
- maybe there could be sequels or maybe they all die, maybe they all die and there is a sequel anyway
- we still have a cover rough sketch but no final, i promise not to just release the cover as a comic for the day, that is lame, i will release a comic and the cover on the day the cover is done

365 comics
I have now published 365 prolly not funny comics
this is the one: http://prollynotfunny.com/post/7035373912/in-flight-mouths-of-babes-part-1

In Flight is turning out to be longer than i thought it would be
and have a little more story than i thought it would, the idea was that it would be disconnected vignettes but i start weaving them together a bit in places. there are like almost 40 parts in total for the story now, it’s actually a little less (like 38 or so really i think)
okay went and got the book… counting…
- 1 cover rough sketch
- 7 released comics
- 13 unreleased finished comics
- 8 comics finished except for the smudging on the stars
- 9 scripts for comics
total pages: 37 (not counting the cover i may never finish a final for but will definitely eventually release to you in some version)
the end is written in those 9 script comics, that could expand (or contract) when it is being drawn. also i can add more adventures in before that point, but once we get into those last 9 we are headed to the end of the story. i always reserve the right to come back to it with In Flight 2 in some way. i’ll do that for anything, even if i kill off all the characters. i mean with Spacemen Go To Mars I can still go back and talk about all kindsa stuff that happened with Tom and Tom is dead. Anyway, ramble ramble ramble, night.

holy crap that was comic #364
its been a little under a year since i started this adventure in making a webcomic. i am a writer at heart and this is where my passion lies with web comics. i’d love to work with a person who can pencil, ink, color, or letter better than me on a project but i really love the sequential art form and i’mma keep going. whee!

spacemen go to mars DOT COM
i just bought the domain spacemengotomars.com and i plan to link it over to the smackjeeves site at http://spacemengotomars.smackjeeves.com once i pay for premium hosting over there
i think i’ll move a lot of series over there and give them their own homes and then make a series page here. of course i’ll still post the comics here daily, but i’ll also post a series on the individual site for it. it’ll be cool, promise

and it is done
Spacemen Go To Mars is over. Well story one is done at least, completely published. Paul Duffield recently said, “a story isn’t truly alive until it has an ending” and now Spacemen Go To Mars has an ending though not a final one but I can definitely vibe off what he is saying as it relates to my own story finishing. i’ve had it completly drawn for weeks and just been patiently spooling it out a page per day. i’ve just published a new comic that isn’t Spacemen Go To Mars. it has some penguins. it feels weird to have left Johnson and Tom and Captain Spaceman. i really got into that story. i’m really into writing the next parts but it will be a little while before you see them on the internet. i’ve got exactly 2 comics fully drawn right now so i really need to get moving on production to keep serving you up a something every day. i have roughs for a few more squawkbots and bare scripts for a few more after that which i totally plan to tackle real soon. i’ve also got a supertoast story that has been kicking around forever (you may have seen the cover a while back). it is pretty short when compared to the SGTM story or even toast race wars. i’ve also roughly scripted the first 19 parts for SGTM2, drawn roughs for the first 5 parts, sketched out a cover, and come up with a subtitle to be the electric boogaloo to my breakin 2 that i’ll reveal later. so seriously Spacemen Go To Mars is coming back. pinky swear.
